Bad recordings

    • Bad recordings

Hope someone here can help me. Tried searchibg through the board, but didn't find any threads about it.

My DM800 se is working perfectly except for one little thing. The recordings it makes are useless... choppy and very pixelated. When I see a channel live the signal seems to be ok (BER is always 0) but the recordings are crap. The problem seems to be worse when I record HD channels, and that's what made me think of the signal strength. But shouldn't it be the same for live tv and recordings?

I've tried DL'ing a new image and flashing it but the problem remains.

      HDD: Samsung spinpoint 500 GB
    • The initializing/format went without any problems, but I'll try it again if you think it will solve the problem.

When it makes a recording and the recording stops, the box stops responding for more than five minutes while the "wheels" in the top left corner spins. Is it supposed to do that every time it stops recording? Or is that an indication that there is a problem with the HDD?
    • Initialized the disk again, no errors reported.

But the problem is still there. I've tried DL'ing the TS file to my com, but the file is choppy and pixelated just as when playing it on the DB. So it's not the actual playing of the file that fails.

      Hmmm.... what to do...?
    • first enable the SMART Support of your HardDisk

      smartctl -s on -F samsung /dev/sda
      smartctl -s on -F samsung2 /dev/sda
      smartctl -s on -F samsung3 /dev/sda

then show me the output of the following command

      smartctl -a /dev/sda
