first save your settings and configs with ConfigSaver, next flash the new image and then use ConfigSaver again to recover your plugins and settings.

Pls. have look in "blue"-> "Newnigma2 Services" -> "System Tools" -> "Configurationsaver".
The plugin itself is kind of self explaining.

Thank you again you are correct no documentation,but there are several options.
As for flashing is it the ususl flash via the network ? -
yepp, right, just flash the "normal" way via webinterface after stopping the Dreambox.
For my 500HD i save the settings to a NAS Drive.
