DM8000 not supporting CI+ = bad

    • DM8000 not supporting CI+ = bad

      Hi all

Ok, I know most of you use DVB-S tuners…. However… I post this as I hope any person in this forum sits on info regarding these new CI+ standard and how it's related to Dream Multimedia product today and tomorrow.

My provider in Sweden "Boxer" through the broadcasting company teracom.se will from now on use DVB-T2 (VERY new standard) instead of DVB-T for HD material that are sent out. Also they will now require that CI is changed to CI+. CI can still be used as long as you don't try to see HD channels.

The tuner DVB-T2 is not yet released by Dream Multimedia, but the DVB-T2 standard is backwards compatible. So far so good… So I thought that if Dream releases these new DVB-T2 tuners I could just switch in my DM8000 and continue to watch HD material. But as said above, a CI+ compliant slot is also required in this case.

      QUESTION 1:
If I got it right the DM8000 hardware is NOT CI+ compliant. Does this mean I can buy a CI+ CAM and insert it but it will not work even if I in the future eventually could buy DVB-T2 tuners from Dream?

      QUESTION 2:
Is CI+ related to DVB-T2 at all? Or do they see this DVB-T to DVB-T2 switch as an opportunity to at the same time Switch to a new standard for the CI interface.

      QUESTION 3:
Can the CI+ be emulated in some way, or is it simply a hardware change that is needed? Is the DM8000 USELESS for future material that requires CI+ ???

As I as a Swede know only 50 words in German I would appreciate english. ;)

in germany there is already ci+. hd+ is working in cccam directly. u dont need a module. maybe for u oscam or cccam can read your card.

dvb-t2 is to new to get this working without any hardware and drivers. the dm8000 would never be useless. it is one of the best "receiver" in the world. it is not only a receiver. it is a multimedia center for me.

50 word in german mh. i hope they are usefull :D i understand u and i think the rest here too. one of our mods is from a nordic land too :)

i hope u understand me. my english is bad :/
    • but hd+ has the advantage that the card is not paired with the receiver nor the module. in switzerland cablecom is using ci+ and the card is paired. so, it is not working with any emu. this means: there is no guarantee that the card will work.

    • If I got it right CI+ has to be implemented in hardware as it is the CI slot interface itself.. Or am I missing something here? If the broadcaster requires CI+ the DM8000 cannot be used... Or....????

    • If you WANT to us the CI+ CAM then the dream of course won't work, because it does't support CI+!
But if you only want so use the supplied HD+ card you need no CI+, coz the card might work with OScam and/or CCcam.
